international course and fellowships
Dr. Harrell assisted in the development and implementation of the Georgia School of Orthodontics Fellowship in Orthodontics. This fellowship is both for U.S. and International students.
In addition, Dr. Harrell has developed a clinical oriented fellowship for general practitioners who provide orthodontic services in countries that have no orthodontic specialty residency programs to enable these practitioners to safely practice limited orthodontic therapy in a manner that is safe for patients.
University program development
Dr. Harrell has served in the past 16 years at all levels of the academic hierarchy within both an undergraduate level as a didactic, laboratory and clinical instructor and in three separate post-graduate orthodontic specialty residency programs. He has served as an Associate Professor as well as a Clinical Professor in these programs. He has also served as both a Clinical Director at the University of Colorado Orthodontic Residency Program as well as Program Director at both the Medical University of South Carolina Orthodontic Residency and presently at the Georgia School of Orthodontics.
He has developed NBDE review courses for undergraduate programs as well as for pediatric dental residency programs for their Pediatric Dentistry Specialty Board written examinations.
Dr. Harrell has extensive experience in curriculum development to meet both program needs as well as satisfying CODA requirements. Dr. Harrell has prepared programs for CODA accreditation and has served as a CODA Site Visitor for graduate orthodontic programs. He has also created and introduced curriculum for three post-graduate programs in Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery at Emory University where he serves as an adjunct faculty member as well as at the Augusta University OMFS Department and the Meharry OMFS Department.
expert witness services
Dr. Harrell has experience in writing evidence-based expert witness reports for malpractice cases involving orthodontic treatment. He had also written an opinion piece for the California courts regarding do-it-yourself orthodontics and the potential harm to patients it can produce.
